Micro-lesson I, the third year of high school, the laboratory preparation of butyl acetate

MicroLesson Preface

Introduction to butyl acetate

Butyl acetate is a fruity-scented liquid. Boiling point 126.3 ° C, density 0.88g/cm ³. It is slightly soluble in water and can be mutually soluble with ethanol, etc. Butyl acetate is a commonly used organic solvent and has important uses in the paint and coating industry. In this micro-lesson, we will introduce the laboratory preparation of butyl acetate.

In high school chemistry, we have learned the laboratory preparation method of ethyl acetate, which is prepared by acetic acid and ethanol under the condition of concentrated sulfuric acid heating. In order to better control the reaction temperature and ensure that the system is heated evenly, the water bath heating method is used. And the operation method of separating while reacting is adopted, and finally the saturated sodium carbonate solution and ethyl acetate are separated by a separation funnel.

The preparation principle of butyl acetate is basically similar to that of ethyl acetate, but the reaction device is different. The reaction temperature of butyl acetate is 115 ℃ -125 ℃, and it cannot be heated in a water bath, but in an air bath.

The boiling point of butyl acetate is higher than the boiling point and reaction temperature of the two reactants, and the device that separates while preparing cannot be used, but a device that is prepared first and then separated.

Let's take a look at the device diagram for separating while preparing.

Finally, we proceed to the separation operation. It is carried out in two steps. The first step is to wash with water and separate the liquid. The second step is to wash with 15% sodium carbonate solution and separate the liquid.

The selection of organic preparation equipment is based on the following.
