It is reported that the project (phase I) was established in 2021. Wanwei High-tech raised 328 million funds and used vinyl acetate and ethylene as raw materials to produce VAE emulsion and high-end VAE emulsion with special polymerization degree by using the kettle semi-continuous emulsion polymerization process. After the project is completed, it can produce 60,000 tons of VAE emulsion and 80 tons of high-end VAE emulsion with special polymerization degree.
VAE emulsion is the abbreviation of ethylene acetate copolymer emulsion. It is a polymer emulsion made of vinyl acetate and vinyl monomer as basic raw materials and copolymerized with other auxiliary materials through emulsion polymerization. It has the advantages of permanent softness, water resistance, weather resistance, low temperature resistance, fast bonding speed, high bonding strength, safe and non-toxic use, and is widely used in adhesives, external wall insulation, building waterproofing, coatings, composite packaging materials, building cement mortar modification, non-woven fabric manufacturing, paper coating, and general bonding of various polar and non-polar materials. Among them, adhesives are the most widely used fields of VAE emulsions and the largest market demand.
With the rapid development of the domestic VAE emulsion market, many companies are accelerating their layout in this field and expanding their production capacity to seize market share. The main producers of the domestic VAE emulsion market include Chuanwei Chemical, Wanwei Gaoxin, Oriental Yuhong, Celanese, Wacker, Dalian Chemical, etc.
In addition to Oriental Yuhong, in 2022, Chuanwei Chemical's planned investment of 285 million yuan for the re-expansion project with an annual output of 60,000 tons of VAE (vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer emulsion) was approved by Sinopec. The expansion project will be put into operation in 2023, when Chuanwei Chemical's total VAE production capacity will reach 180,000 tons.
Earlier Wanwei High-tech said on the interactive platform that the company's VAE emulsion has a capacity of 60,000 tons (the production device is located in Wanwei, Guangxi), and the Anhui headquarters is building a 60,000-ton production capacity device. After completion, Wanwei High-tech has a total of 120,000 tons of VAE emulsion capacity.
Wacker Nanjing has built 2 VAE emulsion production lines and 1 resin production line, forming 160,000 tons/year of VAE emulsion (including 110,000 tons/year of VAE rubber powder emulsion and 50,000 tons/year of VAE commodity emulsion), 60,000 tons/year of VAE redispersible latex powder and 25,000 tons/year of polyvinyl acetate resin capacity. Wacker Nanjing plans to add an annual output of 146,000 tons of VAE emulsion and an annual output of 107,000 tons of VAE redispersible latex powder.
